Coons
Family, TN ( China)

We have been
home for a little over 3 months, and Li Sha amazes us
each day with how quickly she adapts and learns. She
has developed quite a vocabulary, loves to play in her
playroom, loves to eat and is just an absolute joy. We have had a lot of laughs
together since Li Sha joined our family. Li Sha is a
perfect fit into our family. God has truly blessed us
with this little child.

Here is a photo
of Camden Miller! He is eating great. He has been
napping & sleeping at night without any problems. They spend
a lot of time playing with cars, coloring and taking the
slinky to the staircase!

We are doing GREAT. It is hard for me to imagine that
things will continue like this. Jessica has no
transitional issues other than not being accustom to
“our” food so we try to eat Asian one day and
American one day.
She is
making strides in language and communication and has an
amazing gift to make her needs and wants
known via sign and language. I had imagined that by
this point she would be getting frustrated with our
inability to understand her, but that has not been the
case because she makes herself understood. This
week’s new phrase: Hello, how are you?

I can’t believe that it has been that long ago. Ty is
not a baby just a young lady. Ty is still doing
great in school. Her team one first in the Battle of the
Books this past week on the State level of the Beta
Club. She is a super easy kid to raise.

Vivian
is a wonderful little girl, and has brought us more joy
and laughter than we ever imagined. She fits perfectly
in our family, and we’re so lucky to have her.
We
were logged in during the big slow-down in China, so our
wait went from (estimated) 6 months to 20 months to
referral. Children's Hope was wonderful along the way,
and we were so lucky to have a good agency taking care
of us in China.

THE JOURNEY
On February 14, 2007 we got the call to
go see 2 girls ages 8 and 2 years old. We did
not know if we were ready for an older child but
they were sisters and siblings is what we
wanted. When we finally met them we knew they
were what we had been waiting for.
The call finally came in October 2007 and we
left November 3rd. We arrived in Vladivostok
November 6th and had court November 8th. Court
lasted about 1 hour and 15 minutes. Our oldest daughter Tanya
was with us the day before court and our
youngest Leia right after court.
We have not had a dull moment and we are still
learning from each other. We thank God for these
2 girls who are a blessing and a joy ... no
matter how long the wait remember the reason why
you started the adoption process (to have a
forever family.) Thanks to Children's Hope and
all who helped us through this long journey.

Layne
keeps us very busy. She is the most wonderful thing
that has ever happened to us. I cannot even put into
words how much she means to us. We are amazed that
somehow God was able to find our little girl on the
other side of the world and bring her home to us. We
are forever grateful to Children's Hope for helping us bring
Layne home. She is truly the light of our lives.

Ward and I were experiencing the Twelve Days
of Mitchell Anton as we waited out the
court's mandatory holding period in a hotel
with a two year old. So without further
adieu I give you the Twelve Days of Mitchell
Anton:
Day 1 - one little boy in the family. This
was a quiet day at the hotel, where we
learned about each other and how to play
with our new toys.
Day 2 - two new parents and MA is going a
little easy on us, seemingly happy just
exploring the hotel room and hallway, and
eating hotel food without complaint.
Day 3 - three soiled onesies. Yes, we are 3
for 3 in destroying each outfit worn every
day. We bundled up and ventured outside but
for only a few minutes, as it is very cold.
Day 4 - four fabric blocks. Earlier this
week, Ward bought
MA some fabric blocks at the
nearby Mega Mall. Today we strapped MA in
the Baby Bjorn and walked to the mall. MA
was unfazed and we were thrilled to get out
of the hotel.
Day 5 - five stacking rings. Today MA found
his voice. His babbling is newly incessant
and even loud at times. Most of it is in
conjunction with horseplay, literally. He
got a toy horse in his first McDonald's
Happy Meal.
Day 6 - six ounces of milk. MA drank a
small glass of milk today, and seemed to
like it so we'll try more soon. This was
another quiet day as we happily contemplated
that we reached the halfway point of our
Russian Adventure and have less than a week
before we return to
Moscow.
Day 7 - seven times a day on average that
one of us says "Ya Ni Pinimayo Parrusske,"
meaning "I don't understand Russian." Then
we either point, pantomime or smile dumbly.
Day 8 - eight hours in a regular work shift.
Ward and I now do everything in shifts. We
eat in shifts, we dress in shifts. However,
this shift runs 24/7. The good news is that
MA is acting like a normal two year old.
The bad news is that MA is acting like a
normal two year old.
Day 9 - nine times the same waitress has
waited on us at the hotel restaurant. It is
called Star Magazine and the food is good.
Day 10 - ten degrees Fahrenheit has been the
average temperature excluding wind chill
while we've been in Cheboksary, or at least
it feels that way. As Lena, our driver,
said in a most understated fashion, "it is
very cold in
Russia."
Day 11 - eleven points awarded for miracle
shot. In basketball, a shooter gets 1 point
for a free throw, 2 points for making a
shot, and 3 points for a made shot beyond a
certain distance. Since it is Day 11 Ward
and I decided to award MA 11 points for his
shot whereby he flung a piece of bread into
my beer mug at dinner tonight. It was an
amazing shot. We had authentic Russian
cuisine at a restaurant NOT in our hotel to
celebrate our last night in Chuvashia (Ward
says thumbs up on the borscht).
Day 12 - twelve days of waiting at an end.
We are thrilled to be traveling to
Moscow tonight after the
adoption court documents are processed, but
it is bittersweet for MA as he is leaving
the place of his birth.

We
have had Anna for 15 months. She is thriving ... talking
non-stop and curious about everything. She
loves going to school 5 days a week. Her big
brother Jacob loves her as well. We are truly
blessed. God has done a wonderful work in our
family. To Him be the glory!

Aid Happenings...
January is
Orphan Sponsorship Month
Begin this
year by making a difference in the life of an orphan.
There are currently 143 million orphans in the world.
There is an enormous need, but you can make a
difference.
The goal of
the Child Sponsorship Program is to help you help
children in need. Through this program, you can
provide a child with emotional and financial support
that will help them grow up stronger, healthier, and
happier. As a sponsor, you will build a special
relationship with an orphan and help bring hope for a
better tomorrow. Your monthly gift will benefit
not just your particular orphan, but will also help the
community in which he or she lives. At Children's
Hope International, we believe that to truly help a
child we must work to better his or her environment.
To this end, your monthly sponsorship gift may provide
nutrition, medical care, social opportunities,
educational training, or other forms of aid, depending
upon the needs of your particular orphan and the
surrounding community. We would love your
partnership in the great task of bringing homes, health
and hope for children in need. Please click on the
picture below to help today!
