FILM of INTEREST...

Children On The Other Shore

A poignant and moving testimony to the power of love, Children On The Other Shore opens our eyes to the real life victories of physically and emotionally challenged Russian orphans who are given a second chance when adopted into loving families. The children are not only loved by their parents, but also embraced by society despite many challenges. The children and their families highlighted in this film, first participated in the making of the 1994 edition of Children On The Other Shore.  Their compelling story clearly demonstrates the power of family.  Produced by Dr. Natasha Shaginian-Needham, recipient of the 2003 Angel in Adoption Congressional award, along with renowned Russian film Directors Leonid Fishel and Tatiana Vardanyan and award winning Director of Photography Igor Bek, the film first premiered as a documentary on the Russian TV channel “Kultura” and a the Lincoln Center Sony Theater in New York at the Audrey Hepburn Hollywood for Children Film Festival in 1996.

The staff of the Center for Cognitive-Developmental Assessment and Remediation (BGCenter)

is pleased to announce the relocation of our office to a new facility at:

150 Airport Executive Park, Suite 152

Nanuet, NY 10954

Tel. 845-694-8496

This modern facility with test rooms and conference hall will allow us to add such new services as bilingual speech and language evaluation of children and the initial adjustment period counseling for parents; to continue with our psychological assessments and screening of internationally adopted post-institutionalized children; and to conduct workshops with family consultations on varies psychological, medical and legal issues for parents looking for the post adoption support.

Directions: : http://www.bgcenter.com/allDirections.htm

We have also recently created a new online course for adoptive parents.

This new course is entitled "Adopting older children internationally: making a decision and coping with post-adoption difficulties."  This course is extensive and includes lots of case studies discussing real life practical situations, likely to be encountered by parents of older children during the critical months after the adoption.

A lot of attention is given to a pre-adoption parent’s psychological preparation for a difficult task of bringing an orphanage child into the family.  This focus on post-adoption realities.  For more details and the program, please visit:  http://www.bgcenterschool.org/CourseLibrary/JS2M.shtml
