Children at orphanage in Guatemala.

In the Guatemala program, as in all our humanitarian efforts, we strive to be committed to the children who are not adopted. This year (2000), Michelle, the Guatemala Program Coordinator, traveled to the State Orphanage, and CHI made a $5000 donation for the special needs children there. While she was there, Michelle was told that the orphanage has a $2000 milk bill for the more than 150 children there. In 2001, we hope to help the orphanage meet some of this need because it is so hard for them to pay this on a monthly basis. Four orphanages were also visited. It was very exciting to bring in huge suitcases full of brand new clothes, shoes, medicine, baby bottles, and toys to each orphanage. Thanks to the many contributions of families we were able to actually see these items in good use. It is one of many great examples that our Helping Hands Humanitarian efforts do make a difference.

One of the goals for next year is to support the medical special needs children in the various orphanages. We hope to do more for the children who need of medical testing, treatment and surgery! In previous years, we have had diaper and other drives for Guatemala that have always been a good success.
