We have put together a year schedule for Parent Education meetings and feel that each topic has vital information to making your adoption successful.  These FREE seminars are important for waiting families as well as families that have completed their adoption. The meetings provide information but they also help families build a wonderful network of support with other families in the same process.  Childcare is provided and free during the meetings.

7:30 - 8:15    Program

“The Most Important Place on Earth; What a Christian Home Looks Like & How to Build One,” Donna David

CHI Kansas City China caseworker Donna David will be highlighting parenting techniques utilized in the book bearing the same title.  Seeking God’s wisdom and grace in parenting allows us to be effective role models for our children.  Practical ideas will be presented for parents to incorporate into their daily routine.

“Orphanage delay…” what does that mean exactly?  This question and more will be covered as Jaree Vansell from Parents as Teachers and internationally adoptive mom shares information about child development and how that factors in specifically with children who have been adopted internationally.

There is no closer bond than the bond shared between siblings.  In our world of adoption, this bond might look different from family to family, but it is strong no matter what.  Join us for this panel discussion with families as they talk about many different issues with siblings from every kind of adoptive family.

“Post Adoption Blues,” CHI Staff
Unfortunately for adoptive parents, there’s no way to escape the potential effects of depression after having a child. Post partum depression is not just limited to mothers who have birthed children. Post adoption blues can be a very real issue with some adoptive parents, but it is not often talked about or well known. Join the CHI staff as we talk about what post adoption blues is, some of the causes of this disorder, and ways to help overcome this very real issue.

If social workers could convey just one message to adoptive families, it would be how to talk about adoption with their child and others. However, for you parents to be able to talk about adoption, you must be educated about how to do it. Even in this technological world we live in, books are still the best way to learn. We look forward to sharing how you can use books to educate yourself about adoption and how to talk about adoption with your child and others.

The crowd favorite, we once again bring the adults back for another informative and humorous year! CHI has compiled a panel of adults who have been adopted internationally. Along with hearing their story and experience you will be able to see how the experience goes from the other side of adoption. This will help you to place yourself in your child's shoes so that you can see adoption through their eyes.
