CHI Upper

Helping Orphans Person to Person

CHI families and friends personally sponsor
over 300 orphans throughout the world. Shifei and Linju, pictured at
right, are two of those wonderful children. Each sponsor
communicates with his or her child exchanging letters and photos on
a regular basis. As a sponsor, you provide emotional and financial support that will
your child grow up stronger, healthier, and happier. The cost for
sponsorship is just $32 per month.

Employees of the Chicago office of the Bank
of America worked with their employer's matching funds policy to
give $7,500 for medical care in China. The seven boys
pictured at left now lead active lives thanks to the heart surgeries
made possible by Bank of America staff.

20 CHI families and their guests attended
our Chinese New year party. They held a little raffle and
raised $550 for medical care for a badly burned Chinese baby.

After
learning how children living in a poor country struggle to get an
education, St. Therese Catholic School students decided to stage a fund
raiser in their school. They settled on a read-a-thon, something
the whole school could participate in and have fun. St. Therese
held the 2007 Read-A-Thon event to promote good reading habits among the students,
and
at the same time to raise funds for children in poorly
developed countries around the world. St. Therese students gave
$1,500 to CHI for education and medical care in China.

CHI families and friends rallied at a
regional Holiday Gala and raised over $15,000 for an orphan boy
whose last friend had been adopted by one of our families.
This boy's life was irrevocably changed by the commitment and
generosity of participating families.

A suburban girl scout troop wanted to learn
to crochet. A CHI waiting mom wanted to teach them. Each girl
crocheted a colored block and the teacher put them together as a
blanket for burn victim Cheng Zhengwei. The baby got a nice
blanket and the girls got an invaluable lesson in caring for
children in dire circumstances. Who knows where each girl will take
her newfound knowledge and commitment?

Friends and neighbors have
joined forces and staged couple of garage sales for the
benefit
of orphans around the world. Some have given the proceeds for
use in their children's orphanages. Others have given for specific projects.
This concept lends itself to all kinds of
ideas for church groups, scout troops, schools and clubs.
Put
on your thinking cap and let us know what develops!

Families and friends have selected gifts from our
semi-annual catalogs to give as gifts on behalf of children,
grandchildren and, often, grandPARENTS!
Taking Mom to lunch for Mothers' Day is a nice idea.
Giving her lunch for 200 orphans in Guatemala is a great idea!
So far,
orphans have received over $175,000 in aid from shoppers in these
catalogs. Watch your mailbox for the next one.
