You will be instructed when to apply for your visa after you receive your referral.

To obtain your visa, you will need to apply in person, use a courier that will apply in person or a travel agency to apply at the Chinese Embassy/ Consulate for you.   The Chinese Embassy and Consulates no longer accept applications for visas by mail or any mail express service.   

You will need the following to apply for your visa:

  1. Your visa application(s)

  2. Your passport(s); The visa is actually a computerized stamp in your passport. 

  3. Visa photo for each application (*one passport size, front-full face view for each person) *You will also need to  take 2 (two) passport type photos of both adoptive parents to China for the adoption process, so you may want to get all the photos at one time. 

  4. MONEY ORDER or bank check (personal checks are not accepted)

According to the instruction from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, starting from January 20, 2008, visa fee for U.S. citizen will be adjusted on reciprocal basis . The details are as follows:

  1. Visa fee for the individual applicants will be $130 per person, regardless of the types of visa applied for.

  2. Expedited service fees will remain unchanged.

You will need to take 2 (two) passport type photos of both adoptive parents to China for the adoption process, so you may want to get all the photos at one time.
