your referral from the China Center for Adoption Affairs your

original medical report with translation, any other information
provided by the orphanage, the CCAA Seeking Confirmation Letter, CHI
Agreement to Adopt and various other paperwork to the address of
your choice. A letter with an explanation of what to do next will
be enclosed. You will receive it the next day.

Adopting
Toddlers and Older Children
For families adopting children
over the age of two, we recommend that parents prepare two (2)
small identical photo books with photos of parent/parents, siblings,
the new child?s room, family activity shot and family pet(s). Send
one book to CHI, and if you label the photos, we will translate and
mail the photo book to China along with a very small gift (no
bigger than your hand) from you. Send the package to CHI as soon
as possible, so your child will have time to receive your package.
Please take the remaining book to
China with you, just in case the orphanage staff forgets to give it
to your child when leaving the orphanage.
For families adopting an older child
(age 5 and older), we will also translate a letter from you and send
one disposable camera so they can take photos of their ?China family
in the orphanage prior to his/her departure.

For Families Adopting Infants
(children under the age of two)
We do not send items, gifts,
cameras, etc. to the orphanage. In the past, some of these items
have been lost and families were upset when the children did not
have them at the time of the adoption. We prefer the orphanage staff
not be distracted with these things, but to concentrate on the care
of the children.

TRAVEL
APPROVALS FROM THE CCAA
CHI will send
your signed Seeking Confirmation Letter to the CCAA for the
processing of your travel approval. The Travel Approval is one of
the required documents that allow the adoptive parent(s) to travel
to China and to your child?s local province and finalize the Chinese
adoption process.
Once the CCAA
receives your signed ?Seeking Confirmation Letter?, we
estimate
the
turn-around time to be about 4 weeks.

TRAVEL
PREPARATION PACKAGE
While we are waiting for your
Travel Approval we will send the ?travel preparation package?.
The package will contain forms with written instructions and
samples that will need to be completed for your trip and the
adoption process. Some of the forms included will be: the Visa
applications, the I-864 and I-864A Affidavit of Support forms,

needed, along with the current checklist of documents you will need
to take to China.
