A Three Hour
Drive for a Girl Who Will Take Them around the World
December 31, 2007

Susan Osborn looks at a map
of China with new eyes. With adoption social worker
Julia Wheeler-Jenkins and Leslie Broome of the St. Louis
- China Team, they find Susan’s new daughter’s birth
province. Susan and her husband William drove 3½ hours
from northern Illinois to receive their China referral
in person in our St. Louis office on December 31, 2007.
Their 16-month-old daughter awaits their arrival in the
Guizhou province, a less common province of referrals
for Children’s Hope families. The family, and five
additional Children’s Hope families who received
referrals on New Year’s Eve, will travel to complete
their Chinese adoption in approximately 8 weeks.

Wonder

While visiting the St. Louis
Children’s Hope International office, 4-year-old Alex
Braley of Kansas peered into the windows of several
staff decorated gingerbread houses. Alex was adopted
from Kaliningrad, Russia, by proud parents Caroline and
Randy in January 2004. The family is currently adopting
again through Children’s Hope. Thank you for visiting,
Alex!

A Long
Awaited Day
November 6, 2007
Ten China families across
the nation celebrated their Referral Day yesterday after
waiting 23 long months from the day their paperwork was
registered in China. In St. Louis, we were happy to
share this day with three of our families! Now in
approximately 8 weeks, these families will travel to
complete their adoption and unite with their daughters.

Holly Sparks of Weldon
Spring, Missouri, visited the Children’s Hope main
office this October with her new puppy, Emily. Holly
received three shots and a puppy in one day. One makes
up for the other, anyway! Parents David and Elizabeth
adopted Holly’s sister Hope through Children’s Hope
China Program in April 2001, Holly in September 2003,
and are currently in the process for the girls’ sister.

“This process was so
great!” says mom Renee Sattazahn. “Anyone waiting now to
adopt—the wait is so well worth it!” Renee, just two
weeks after finalizing her adoption of Lily in China, is
still in awe of her young daughter. Pictured: Lily plays

Two weeks ago, Micah made Children’s Hope
history as the first child adopted through Children’s
Hope Ethiopia program. This 6-month-old will call St.
Louis his home, with parents Stacie and Kevin, and their
three dogs. We consider this family a part of Children’s
Hope family, too. Pictured: Micah, held by Executive
Director Dwyatt Gantt. |

Happy tears flow as Sam

Chongqing City, China. Their Children's Hope social
worker, Christina Ortwein (L), gives them the medical
information on their child. There were 17 Children’s Hope

St.
Louis Russia Families Reunite
June 6, 2007

Melyssa Frederick,
adoptive mother and former social worker for the
Russia Program, enjoys her evening picnic with
daughters Nora and Katerina. Katerina, Melyssa and
David’s eldest daughter, was adopted through

family joined other St. Louis Russia families and
Children’s Hope staff in St. Louis’ Forest Park to
reunite and to kindle new friendships. The group
cooked out and played games until nightfall Friday,
June 1. Children’s Hope is excited for all our

Mother
and Child Adopted from Vietnam
May 15, 2007
Tami
Herman smiles broadly while watching her new daughter
passed from aunt to uncle to grandparent on arrival home
from their adoption trip to Vietnam, May 15. Little
6-month-old Olivia, receives kisses and hugs while
traveling through the arms of her new family. Tami and
her husband Jason finalized Olivia’s adoption from Kien
Giang Province almost 33 years after Tami was escorted
from Vietnam to the same St. Louis airport to be adopted
by her Missouri parents. Now she has the opportunity to
experience the joy of adoption herself.
“When it came time for me to
adopt, it was a natural to adopt from Vietnam,” Tami
said.
The Hermans were one of the
seven Children’s Hope families returning from Vietnam
this week.
