We began our adoption process in June of 2003. At that time, Vietnam had just decided to close to adoptions to reorganize the way adoptions were done there. This meant a wait, but we were set on adopting from Vietnam. We have close family ties to Vietnam and wanted to wait. We were overjoyed when on February 14, 2006 we received our referral for Sang Van Nguyen, our baby boy, who was in the Kien Giang province of Vietnam. Sang was five months old at the time. What a wonderful Valentine’s Day gift for us! We received some photos of Sang and were overjoyed.
In June of 2006, we traveled to pick up Sang, who we have since renamed Jackson. We were able to spend time with family while the adoption process was completed. We landed in Ho Chi Minh City first and then traveled to Kien Giang, where Jackson was waiting for us. After our Giving and Receiving ceremony was complete, we traveled back to Ho Chi Minh City. Once we completed a few more steps, we were able to travel to Hanoi. We were amazed how each step of the process went smoothly and we were soon on her way home. We arrived home on June 28, 2006. Jackson was nine months old when we arrived home. The CHI staff was wonderful to us and very helpful…both in Vietnam and in St. Louis.
We feel
extremely lucky to have Jackson in our lives. He has already brought us so much
love and joy. Jackson has adjusted to his new environment very well. He is
very healthy, open, and loving. We are amazed at how well he sleeps and eats,
and has developed extremely well.
