       NEPAL  ADOPTION

Adoption_Nepal

New Applications for Nepal not currently being accepted.  Unlimited openings for adopting in China.  Also Kazakhstan

As of August 1, 2004, Children’s Hope International has put a temporary hold on accepting new applications for its Nepal Program.

Here is a brief outline of the requirements and costs to adopt from Nepal:

 Criteria:

  • Single women and couples are allowed to adopt.

  • Couples must be married for at least four years and be infertile.

  • Both husband and wife must be between the ages of 30 and 55 years.

  • Single women must be between the ages of 35 and 55.

  • The age of the parent has some bearing on the age of the child, with younger children being referred to younger parents.

  • Applicants who have a child of one gender may only adopt a child of the other gender. Applicants who have both a boy and a girl are ineligible to adopt from Nepal at this time

  • Families with up to 2 children of the same gender are permitted to adopt from Nepal.

 Details:

  • Nepal adoptions require two trips, though only one parent is required to travel. The first trip lasts about 5 business days. It involves meeting the child, getting documents signed at the US Embassy, and submitting the dossier to the District Administration office. Once the file is approved by key Nepalese government departments (about 3 to 4 months later), the parent(s) travel a second time, for about 15 business days, to sign papers, receive the adoption certificate and visa, and bring the child home.

  • Most of the children are available for adoption due to poverty or because they have been born to unwed mothers.

  • Usually, very little background information or health history is available on the children, and birthdates are often estimated. Each child will undergo a medical exam prior to adoption in which they will be screened for HIV and Hepatitis B.

  • The Nepal dossier is relatively straightforward to prepare, with all documents requiring only notarization.

  • The current projection for a referral is about 6 to 8 months from the completion of the dossier
