Children’s Hope
Sponsored Project
Marching to the Beat of Hope
David was rescued
from an abandoned building when he was only 4 years old. Now 15,
he has written many songs, allowing him to express himself and
share with his peers.
David is one of
140 children being looked after and attending school at
Children’s Vision in Bogota, Colombia. For the most part they
are orphaned children. Others are either homeless or live in
complete poverty.
Music is a vital
part of these children’s lives and it helps open many closed
doors in their hearts. These children love music, but their
options are limited because there are not many musical
instruments on which to learn.
Having a marching
band will allow these kids to further develop their love for
music and will teach them important skills like teamwork and
time management. They will be working together to create
beautiful sounds and will learn to understand the rewards
associated with practice and commitment. All of these areas are
very important in a child’s development process.
A friendly
competition between St. Louis and Kansas City’s most talented
young musicians will help support the Bogota Children’s Vision
marching band through Children’s Hope 4th Annual Concert for
Orphans: Musical Star Wars. $3000 will fund the marching band
and provide student instruments.
Students
auditioned and competed in 2006 to purchase instruments for
an Ethiopian school for the blind.
This regional
event will raise potentially half the funds necessary. If this
project pulls on your heart strings (or your guitar strings),
you can take one step closer to making this project a reality.
