A Child's Right Campaign for Vietnam: 149
Signatories Show Their Support
In early June, Children’s Hope began
spreading the word to our families to support the Joint Council
on International Children's Services' (JCICS) A Child’s Right
Campaign for Vietnam by calling and emailing their members
of Congress and asking them to back this important initiative.

The above linked letter is addressed
to Secretary Rice in support of the recommendations in the
Campaign. Through the hard work of JCICS member constituents and
the petitioning of so many families of international adoption,
this Campaign received a total of 149 signatories, including 92
members of the House and 57 members of the Senate.
"I am pleased to see so many
signatures!" says CHI's Vietnam Program Director Nicky Losse.
Everyone at Children's Hope shares her excitement. It is our
hope it will have an impact on the US government to encourage a
new or interim agreement with Vietnam before the current
Memorandum of Understanding expires on September 1, 2008.
If your Congressman or Senator is
not on this list, do please continue to urge them to join in
this effort. We also ask for your continued prayers for the best
resolution for all families adopting from Vietnam and for the
orphans who have no home to call their own.

Referrals!
Our Vietnam program received 7
referrals in the latter part of June - 3 for healthy infant boys
and 4 orphans with special needs. All of these precious children
have been matched with a forever family. In July, we received 4
referrals. These referrals were for a
4½-year-old healthy boy and
5-month-old boy, both from Tam Binh 1 orphanage, and two special
needs girls, 4 months old and 9 months old.
The Vietnam family traveling in
mid-July is now home with their son. Welcome home! We would also like to
welcome home 3 families, who together adopted 4 children at the
end of June. Congratulations to all the new families!

The Vietnam Program would
like to welcome back Angie Thorn! On June 30, Angie
returned to the office after her adoption leave. Angie
and her husband Tim adopted a beautiful little boy from
Vietnam they have named Ryan. Ryan is almost 4 years old
and doing great in his new home. Welcome back, Angie!
Pictured: Tim, deployed in Iraq, had his black box of
personal items delivered home in the beginning of July.
Ryan’s dad will return late this month and will finally
get to meet his son and vice versa! “We are counting
down the days!” says Angie. |

“We have been home for a little over
3 weeks from Vietnam and have adjusted nicely. Julia Claire is
the most perfect baby ever! She only gets up one time a night
for a bottle and started doing that the second night we got
home. She is a good little sleeper. She is very laid back and
easy going. She just goes with the flow and doesn't seem to mind
the endless stream of visitors we have had since returning from
Vietnam.
This experience has been
indescribable but certainly the best ever. I will never forget
the day we went and picked Julia Claire up from the Christina
Noble Center. |
|
It was the best day of my life.
Thank you to Children's Hope and all the wonderful people who
helped make this adoption possible for Julia Claire and me.”
