Associate Director Melody Zhang sorts
through the drawings, overwhelmed with these personal
messages. She had just returned to Beijing after 2 weeks
amongst the rubble and relief work in Wenchuan to plan Phase
2 of Children’s Hope relief work. To read her past updates
and see projects currently moving forward, visit Melody’s
blog at

On May 13, one day after the initial
7.9 magnitude quakes that hit the Sichuan province in China, we
asked our Children's Hope sponsors and families to submit
encouraging drawings to the children affected by the earthquake.
On Children’s Day in China, June 1, these drawings were
distributed to children along with 1,000 backpacks containing
school supplies. The devastation of losing parents and relatives
literally within minutes, along with the disruption of school,
schedule, and home, was and is a traumatic time for these young
children. Thank you for expressing yourself through these
drawings and showing these children that caring Americans knew
of their plight as well.
Group participants in this
project include: Hope Christian Academy, St. Agnes Catholic
School, Sacred Heart Catholic School, Windsor 5th Grade Center,
Mrs. Riddle's 4th grade class at Scale's Elementary (Mia
Esworthy), Kindergarten Class (Maria Ortiz), John Lalande
School, Southport Christian School, Jack Chambless' 1st grade
class, and Mrs. Miller's class at William H. Rowe School.
Featured Junior
Ambassadors
At Children’s Hope, we've found that
often our supporters with the biggest hearts are children who
are eager to help kids just like them. These are our Junior
Ambassadors.

Calli Fuller - On the
wall in Calli's classroom was a list that the children had
brainstormed about what makes a hero. Some said "super
powers", others said "kindness". At the bottom of the page
was listed Calli Fuller. One of the children in her class
said Calli was a hero for working hard to raise money for
the earthquake victims. To that Calli replied, "Well, I
guess that makes all of you heroes, too, for helping me."

Melanie and Grace Gray
- When Melanie Gray heard about the horrible earthquake
in China, she decided to raise money to help people in
China. There were lots of preparations for her and her
3-year-old sister Grace: getting cups, pitchers, ice,
lemonade, poster board, special paint markers, and jars
for the donations. At their local park, the girls had
several families drive up in their cars and roll down
their windows to order. The girls took turns delivering
the lemonade, but little Grace wanted to be the one to
put the money in the jar every time.
