Children in 50 schools across
Ethiopia will soon receive needed text books because of a new
Children?s Hope partnership. A huge shipping container, in
Washington D.C., is now being loaded by volunteers with 30,000
textbooks, encyclopedias and some literature.
Children?s Hope Ethiopia will
distribute these books that have been donated to The World Bank
Family Network. Four times a year, since 1982, WBFN volunteers
have shipped donated books to developing countries. The
organization?s goal is to provide to the most disadvantaged and
those without access to books. WBFN hasn?t been able to make a
delivery to Ethiopia until this year when Children?s Hope agreed
to become a distributor.
Over the past several weeks,
Children?s Hope Ethiopia developed the list of 50 schools in
three regions that desperately need books. A profile of the
school?s students and needs were provided to WBFN so that the
proper textbooks would be shipped for that particular school.
The container packed with thousands
of books will be loaded on to an ocean going cargo ship toward
the end of this month. Children?s Hope staff will take delivery
of the shipping container when it arrives in a
Djibouti port city sometime in May. Shortly after, children throughout
Ethiopia will receive the gift of books that will help propel
them to a brighter future.
