It has been over two years since the Indian Ocean
tsunami killed more than 200,000 people, left millions without
homes, and in some cases orphaned children. Since then a lot has
been accomplished to rebuild areas affected by this
disaster. However, in many communities basic needs are still not
met. This, combined with sufferings from extreme poverty, has
resulted in millions of street children and kids from
untouchable families in severe need of basic clothing items.
Many international organizations address the
clothing issue in times of disaster when it is apparent and
impossible not to notice. In India, however, lack of basic
necessities is an ongoing concern. As one visits the various
parts of the country, a common factor especially noticeable in
villages and poor sections of the cities is that most children
have little, if any, clothes.
Help us address this basic need, and aid the
homeless and the street children of India by providing a child
with a gift of clothing through donation. Ten dollars can provide for a child an entire outfit, including a shirt,
pants, shoes, and socks.
