VIETNAM PROGRAM UPDATES

There are
currently eight families in Vietnam finalizing their Vietnamese
adoption! This week we received travel approval for 7 more
families. These families are traveling to HCMC (Picasso and Tam
Binh 1 orphanages) and Kien Giang province as well. All families
waited between 4-5 months for travel. They will leave for
Vietnam the first week in May. There is a national holiday in
Vietnam on April 30th and offices will be closed on
the 26th and 30th of April and May 1st
in Vietnam. We do expect to have more families traveling in May.
Congratulations to all those that will be traveling soon!
So far this year,
we have received 15 healthy referrals, with an additional 10
waiting children placed with forever families. Out of the 15
healthy referrals, nine were infants (7 boys/2 girls); two
referrals, 1-2 years old (1 girl/1 boy); two referrals, 3-4
years old (both boys) and two referrals of children over 5 years
old (both boys). We do expect more referrals in the next few
weeks. Children are currently being reviewed for medical reports
and check ups. Currently there are 40 families matched with
children waiting to travel, 152 families with CIS approval
waiting for their referral and 193 families in the application
stage.
**NEW
REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DOSSIER**
The Vietnam
government no longer requires a birth certificate from each
parent as part of the dossier, effective immediately. For those
families just submitting their dossier this week, Children’s
Hope will maintain the authenticated birth certificates in your
file. Replacing the birth certificate as proof of citizenship is
your passport documentation.
For families with
only one parent traveling to Vietnam, an additional requirement
is now in effect. Children’s Hope will collect a $500 deposit
from these families prior to travel, which will be invoiced in
your final fees paid. When you return home and the non-traveling
parent re-adopts the child here in the U.S. and obtains their
child’s certificate of citizenship, your deposit will be
refunded. This deposit is meant to encourage the re-adoption
procedures in the U.S. If the re-adoption by the non-traveling
parent is not finalized, the child will not maintain the rights
of a U.S. citizen and risks deportation if they later are
involved with the law. Although this is a rare occurrence, it is
a serious one we hope to help our families avoid. Please call
your local branch or home office with any questions.

Adopted
from the Go Vap orphanage in Vietnam last June, this walking,
running smiling boy just turned 1 in March.
Cole can
say "dada", "k.g." (the cat), but so far refuses to say "mama".
From mom, Deborah
Townsend:
“Everywhere we go, people are drawn to Cole. He has a
personality just like his daddy — extremely outgoing, yet laid
back enough to adapt to any situation. He also looks like his
daddy who is half-Vietnamese. He is extremely popular in our
Youth Group we help lead at church! I am so thankful to God for
giving us such a wonderful son. He is our first and we hope to
return to Vietnam someday to get him a sibling. Cole was so
worth the wait!”
