Our Accreditations

From the first day it begins to smell like fall, children begin daydreaming of the fun of Halloween. This year they will be Frankenstein, a fireman, or maybe Shrek or Fiona. But the real excitement is in the thoughts of a future candy stash and the crafting projects they will create all month long with a cup of cider or hot cocoa nearby.

(for all ages, preschool and up)

Materials:

  • popped popcorn

  • candy corn

  • clear plastic gloves (should be non-latex and powder free)

  • ribbon, yarn or other ties

Instructions:

  1. Create ghoulish fingernails by placing candy corn in the ends of each glove fingertip, point side out.

  2. Fill glove with popcorn (cooled, so as not to melt plastic glove). Slide pieces of popcorn slowly into each finger; be careful not to crush. Leave approximately an inch of room at the top of the glove.

  3. Pull the base of the glove together and tie off with ribbon to secure. (Orange or black may be most festive for Halloween.)

Special notes: For multicultural hands, change it up with chocolate covered popcorn or cheese or caramel popcorn. Another option for African-American hands (or Ethiopian-American hands): replace popcorn for malted milk balls. Other fun color options can include lemon balls and red hots. For witchy hands, drop in a few gum drops in at the last minute to create ?warts?.

For advanced crafters: Add a spider ring, available at your local department or party store, to each Ghoulish Hand.

Floating Hands Punch

Fill the clear plastic gloves with Kool-Aid and freeze.

Peel the glove off carefully.

Float the hand-shaped ice in a bowl of alternate colored punch.

Boo Burgers

Create Halloween sandwiches by carving a spooky face in the cheese before applying to hamburger.
