VIETNAM PROGRAM UPDATES

More referrals! In the first week of March we received four additional referrals! All were boys including three infants (1-month, 5-months and 6-months-old) and a 3-year-old boy. These families experienced a wait time of 8-9 months for their referrals. Congratulations to all these happy families!

The six families traveling in country all finished their Vietnam adoptions early and are arriving home this week. Although these families were in country for only ten days, we still anticipate the travel to be 2-3 weeks on average. We hope to have more families traveling by the end of March! At least three more families will be traveling soon after their Giving & Receiving dates are issued to complete their adoptions from Vietnam.

Currently there are 43 families waiting to travel, 135 families on dossier list waiting to be matched with a referral and 175 families in the application stage working on their home study or waiting for their immigration approval. It is possible we will receive more referrals this month!

Fifteen children have been united with their forever families through Children’s Hope Vietnam program so far in 2007!

We hope everyone is enjoying the new Vietnam E-newsletter! If you are not yet receiving the E-newsletter from the Vietnam team and would like to please let us know. In the next issue we hope to feature our in country staff. We are also looking for family stories or any suggestions for content. What would you like to see? Please send your ideas or family stories to Pam at Pam@childrenshopeint.org.

Chuc Mung Nam Moi!! (Happy New Year) Children’s Hope regional families gathered to celebrate Tet, the Chinese New Year and the Russian New Year in the last few months. May all of our families have much luck and happiness in the coming year!

Ryan Atteberry loved his first Tet in the U.S., with red balloons and lots of good food at a St. Louis restaurant on February 18.

Ben (China) receives an unexpected hug from his brother Hop (Vietnam) at the Southeast Regional Office’s Tet celebration. Waiting families, two with referrals and many families home with children attended the celebration, decorating a mask for the year of the Pig and learning the “Lion Dance.”
