KAZAKHSTAN PROGRAM UPDATES

We are grateful for each and every one of our Kazakhstan adopting families. Happy New Year!

In January, three families have arrived home with their children from Kazakhstan after completing their child?s adoption on their second trip to the country ? congratulations! These families were able to experience Kazakhstan?s celebration of the New Year?s holiday.

Adopting from Kazakhstan requires two trips to complete a successful adoption. During the first trip families spend approximately three to four weeks bonding with their child, before returning on a second trip to finalize the adoption in court. The first trip can lengthen if there is a change in the region of adoption or a delay in the setting of a court date for the second trip.

Children?s Hope is currently working in ten orphanages and baby homes in Kazakhstan, with the intention to work in more regions. Our current waiting time from adoption paperwork submission to Kazakhstan to the time of the family?s referral is 12 months for a referral of a boy and up to 15 months for a girl.

CHI Staff To Visit Kazakhstan and Russia: Program Director Karen Carnesciali is currently traveling in Kazakhstan and Russia. While in Kazakhstan, Karen will meet with Kazakhstan officials, orphanage and baby home directors and doctors, and US Embassy personnel.

While visiting their daughter during their first trip to Kazakhstan, parents Michelle and Randall Nett began to bond with young Tatyana. ?I think we were about 5 or 6 days into our visitations and this was the first time that Tatyana expressed any kind of happiness to see my husband and myself,? says Michelle, remembering. ?I was showering her with kisses, because we were, of course, so happy to see her.?

Home in Idaho for over a year, Tatyana is doing great. ?She is such a joy. It is wonderful to watch her personality shine through - she is determined, strong willed and generally very happy.? The Netts adopted Tatyana in October 2006.
