Making some holiday cookies? Let your children help make a sugar cookie that becomes a toy.

Ingredients

2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour

3/4 tsp. baking soda

1/2 tsp. salt

1 cup butter at room temperature

1 cup sugar

1 large egg

1 tbsp. vanilla extract

Assorted candies

Lollipop sticks (Approx. 15)

Cookie frosting

Small Dose of Imagination

Directions

Help the kids measure and mix flour, baking soda and salt into a medium-sized bowl; set aside.

In a large mixing bowl, beat the butter and sugar with an electric mixer at medium speed for about 1 minute. Add the egg and vanilla extract and mix until well combined.

At low speed, gradually add your initial flour mixture to the butter and sugar, mixing well after each addition, starting and ending with the flour. The dough should be stiff. Gather the dough into two flat round disks, cover with plastic and chill for at least 2 hours until set.

After the dough has set, preheat oven to 350 degrees. Between sheets of plastic wrap, roll the chilled dough until it is 1/4-inch thick.

Remove the top sheet of plastic wrap, and with a wide mouthed glass or Christmas cookie-cutter, cut out faces for the cookie puppets.

Place each cookie on an ungreased baking sheet and insert the lollipop sticks into their center.

Bake the cookies for 8 to 10 minutes or until golden brown around the edges.

Let cool for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely. Makes approximately 15 puppets.

With your small dose of imagination, make the puppets come alive by adding Santa?s hat and beard or brother Joshua?s eyes and nose with frosting and candy.
