Our
biological daughter, Lauren, had been asking for a little sister since she had
seen the movie “Cheaper By The Dozen.” When we told Lauren that we were going
to adopt from China, she became overwhelmed with happiness and she was hoping we
would get her new sister right away. We had already started the adoption
paperwork when we told Lauren in April, 2004. By September, we submitted our
dossier and then we waited in anticipation of hearing any information about
which baby girl had been chosen for us. Then in March, 2005 we got “the call”
from CHI to tell us the referral had arrived! As we looked at the pictures and
read information about her, we couldn’t wait to bring Katy into our family.
A few
months later in May, 2005 our “Journey of Love” was made to the city of Heifei
in the Anhui province of China with 9 other adopting families. When 13
month-old Katy was handed to us, she screamed in fright, but eventually fell
asleep. Upon waking up, she started to bond with us. We were amazed by the
little things she did like swaying to music and playing with her toys. The
transition for Katy (and us, too) was very easy. Katy is now 2 years old and is
being the typical toddler. She is walking, talking, and exploring life around
every corner. It’s great to have her say “Mom” and “dad” when she calls for
us. Lauren loves being the big sister and it is fun to watch Katy learn from
Lauren.
The
friendly staff at CHI made the process of adoption much easier than we
expected. They were always available to answer any questions and help us with
the entire process. During the 2 weeks we were in China our CHI guides were
always with us every step of the way. We are so happy with our decision to
adopt Katy through Children’s Hope International. Our “Journey of Love” came
true.
